CAMBRIDGE ELEMENTARY

The BrainyElem program is offered at the Elementary level, for students aged between 6 to 11 years old. The core topics introduced at this level are English (1st Language), Mathematics and Science. As Brainy Bunch has a unique blend of the teaching methods, both the Cambridge and the Montessori Method are introduced to students as young as 5-6 years old. As they progress to Upper Elementary at the age of 9-11, they will still be adapting the more in-depth Montessori method as well as embarking on the Cambridge method of teaching solely to prepare them to seamlessly progress into their secondary level, where they will be preparing for their IGCSE exam.

BrainyElem Lower (6-9 years old)

It is never a typical day in school for students belonging to this group. Classes are set for one-hour and consists of working with Montessori apparatus, starting with an introduction from homeroom teacher comprising of a 3-period lesson, to students moving on to work independently on their own apparatus, at their own pace and time. A Montessori teacher’s role is to identify the students’ readiness to move to the next apparatus, and occasionally affirms that understanding by providing the NAMC (North America Montessori Centre) worksheets to complete.

BrainyElem Upper (9-11 years old)

At this level, students are already equipped with a strong foundation on core subjects such as Language, Maths and Science. They would move on to master the more complex and challenging Montessori apparatus to broaden and deepen their understanding of the subject matter. Students would also test their understanding skills they acquire in Lower Elementary to attempt the Cambridge syllabus. This will be done simultaneously with the Montessori apparatus to sharpen their knowledge and their ability to put what they’ve learned into practice.

CAMBRIDGE IGCSE

Brainybridge program and qualification are carefully designed to engage our students and give them solid foundation to achieve high level of academic and personal attainment. The program that has been carefully developed by Brainy Bunch is progressive, giving our students a clearly defined path to success from age of 12 to 15. Our four stages lead seamlessly from the Brainybridge Preparation Class to Brainybridge Year 3 and each stage builds on the student's development from the previous one.

BrainyBridge Preparatory Class (12 years old)

BrainyBridge preparatory class is specially designed for students aged 12 years old. It develops students’ skill and understanding on basic Mathematics, Science and English. This program is to provide a solid foundation before the students step into Cambridge IGCSE program. The program is compulsory for BrainyElementary students as well as entrance from Malaysian UPSR graduates.

Cambridge IGCSE encourages student-centred and enquiry-based approaches to learning. It also develop skills in creative thinking, enquiry and problem solving, giving student excellence preparation for higher level courses such as Cambridge International AS an A Level, Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education Diploma, Cambridge Pre-U, the North American Advance Placement Test and International Baccalaureate Diploma. In Malaysia, Cambridge IGCSE is used as entry passport in Malaysian International Islamic University (UIAM) Foundation Programme and many more.

Cambridge IGCSE assessment takes place at the end of the course and can include written, oral, coursework and practical assessment. This broadens opportunities for students to demonstrate their learning, particularly when their first language is not English. In many subjects there is a choice between core and extended curricula, making Cambridge IGCSE suitable for a wide range of abilities.

ISLAMIC CURRICULUM

The Brainy Muslim integration plan includes the Islamisation of the existing Montessori curriculum. A comprehensive, age-appropriate Islamic studies plan (Tawhid & Aqidah, Ibadah, Iqra’, Hafazan, Hadeeth, Adaab & Akhlaq, Fiqh, Seerah, Tareekh, Arabic & Jawi) has been integrated into the whole curriculum so our little Muslims may understand the relevance of religion in their daily lives. Over and above helping each child develop a basic understanding of these essential Islamic topics, the integrated Islamic component enables them to realise the need to incorporate Islamic values and ideology in their young, and Insha-Allah, later life as an adolescent and adult. The Brainy Muslim integration plan includes the Islamisation of the existing Montessori curriculum. Our Islamic content covers every spectrum of the Islamic guiding principles to provide a strong spiritual foundation to our students. Besides preparing them to sit for the Arabic and Islamic Studies and Culture subjects in IGCSE, Islamic studies provides a holistic approach in shaping the child’s life from a very young age to develop their understanding and love towards Islam and practise it as a way of life.

Hadeeth learning is not limited to memorisation but is also incorporated in their daily lives. Before the start and end of each lesson, students are encouraged to pick up litters in the classroom and ensure that the class is clean. This is in line with the Hadeeth on “Cleanliness is Half of Faith”. The ustaz will stress on this hadeeth as an explanation for their actions. Other hadeeth that are learned and implemented in school include hadeeth on managing their anger “Don’t be angry, and Heaven will be Yours” and a constant reminder to sit while drinking “None of you should drink while standing”. Often, the Hadeeth taught are synonym to the Montessori method of teaching. For example, in the Montessori method, students will be encouraged to play the Silent Games when the class gets too noisy. At the same time, students are also taught a hadeeth which means “Keeping silent is considered as (an act of) wisdom..” so students are encouraged to be silent to showcase a character of wisdom. Also in school, students are encouraged to smile and give salam to everyone “Modesty is part of Faith”, “A smile of a Muslim to another Muslim is an alm”. On top of that, they are also encouraged to visit a sick friend in hospital.

2 months prior to Ramadhan 2014, Brainy Bunch set out a 90 days Quran proficiency program, whereby by the night of Nuzul Quran, every student in Brainy Bunch Elementary could read the Al-Quran. Students were segregated based on their proficiency level, and every Ustaz was assigned to teach and nurture each group to achieve the target. For those who are already reciting the Al-Quran, the target is for them to khatam Quran on that blessed night, which also was made to coincide with our 2nd Qiyammuallail activity for that year. On the night itself, anxious and excited parents were invited for Iftar, followed by Maghrib, Isya and Terawih prayer at Brainy Bunch headquarters. After the prayers, all the elementary students were arranged in 3 safs, the first saf was for students who have khatam Al-Quran, 2nd saf was for students who are halfway towards completing the Quran, and the 3rd saf was for students who have just started reading Al-Quran. The students who have khatam Quran received small token from their very proud parents. When the parents set out for their respective homes, the students stayed for their Qiyamullail session and left the school after Qiyam, Sahur and Subuh prayers. Another successful target being achieved and a successful event for Brainy Bunch and their dedicated ustazs and students.
